A Poem, How Will I Stand Tall?

by Susan Thom

I shall stand tall when all around me are trying to stunt my growth.

I will rely on my faith and strength, and will do wonders with them both.

I will hold my head up high, for I have done nothing to cause it shame.

I will use my integrity, when others want to find blame.

I will rally my spirit when I need to honor myself,

I will find deep satisfaction in all of this wealth.

I will be true to my principles, and never stop the forces within,

I will remember where I am, and where I have been.

I will be true to my soul, and know the power it brings

I will listen to nature, and hear the birds sing.

I will believe in my Lord, and follow his cue,

I will know instinctively what He wants me to do.

I will feel the wisps of the angels wings,

I will find comfort in oh so many things.

I will be the culmination of many teachings Ive read.

I will keep all those teachings dancing around in my head.

I will pick and choose the ideals I need.

I will be a better person, and I will succeed.

Susan Thom is the mother of three children, two sons, 20 and 23, and a daughter 25. Her older son is in the air force in Germany right now, and her daughter is in the army in Tacoma, Washington.

Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go by herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.

Very nice, Susan. It cheered me up to read this on a dreary, rainy day in Arkansas.
