Free Falling From Life

I think we've all experienced feeling as if we are falling, in our sleep, and waking up with a jolt. I'm sure there is a reason for this, either physically or emotionally, but to me, it may be a sleep induced premonition. How is our life going at the time we fall through space, usually waking up before we hit the ground? Are we under a lot of pressure and stress? Do we feel like our world is unraveling, and we have no control over the results? Are we unsure of which avenue to take in a business or personal venture? Are we afraid of the circumstances in our life, and suddenly, in our sleep, let go? We keep pushing ourselves toward sanity in real life, maybe we just need to relax, and our fall in our sleep is allowing us to do so.

I think we've all most likely witnessed others falling in their sleep, maybe a spouse, or children. I remember seeing my kids jump in their sleep while napping in the family room. They later said they had a feeling like they were falling. Children suffer stress, too. Somebody could be bothering them at school, or they don't know the answers to the test tomorrow. In their sleep, they let go, release all the tightness they have built up in worrying. Again, I'm sure there is a practical and scientific reason for this happening, but I like to think that free floating through space in our sleep, may be a release of some kind.

Feeling as if we are falling in our everyday life may also play a part. Sometimes, it doesn't seem like there is anything to hold on to, except one's Faith in a Higher Power. "It's in your hands" is what I think is the best thing to do, give the problem or situation over to God. He's the only one who really knows what He's doing, and can truly help. It's one thing to say you have hope and Faith in God, and it's another to humbly ask Him to take over the reins, and trust that He will.

I am getting much better at being able to do this, as I have suffered by not doing so, for many years. "God, this problem is too big for me to handle alone, please take over." If we truly believe this will happen, we can feel peace, not fear, in a feeling of floating through space. I'm only talking through experience, not any educated answer.

I didn't get a degree in knowing that when I work my belief system, I'll be okay, no matter what the occurrence or situation. I can simply just look back, remember different things I went through, and how I reacted to them, and how those reactions caused me to feel. When I forgot to hand over my whoas to God, things went badly, however, when I did remember to hand them over, things turned out okay. I was reminded of this for 4 years while attending a twelve step program, and I still start out to solve my own problems without asking God to guide my way. "I can handle it." Famous last words. Chances are, we can't. We are stressed, we are depressed, we may get ill, and all because we are trying to "Do it on our own."

That's how I was taught by both my parents, "Work your problems out", "Just do it", "You need to learn how to solve your own problems". I did the same with my kids. Now, I realize that along with teaching our kids to stand up for themselves and handle their situations, we need to make them aware of the fact that they, too, must turn their will and their problems over to God. It is not our will, but God's that counts. This doesn't mean we stop doing everything in our power to help ourselves and our situations, because that isn't part of the equation I'm talking about.

There needs to be, in my opinion, a bond between doing our part, and letting God do His part. We can take it all on by ourselves, and get stressed, depressed, sick, confused, and fearful, or we can remember that we say we believe in God. If we mean it, we need His help. We simply need a quick prayer: "Dear God, please help me, take this burden from my shoulders, and guide me to do the right things." Then, we have to stay out of our own way, and allow His help to filter through our being, and allow us to see the Light, and act on that Light. We'll recognize it because it will feel right, and a feeling will warm us with a calming peace sent straight from above. It's worth a try.

Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go by herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.

Beautiful article, Sue. You are a person after my own heart. I too believe in giving up everything to God. Sure we must help ourselves, but we must also not be afraid, or ashamed, to ask for God's help and guidance. He would never steer us wrong. God bless you in all that you do. SEG
