Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is

My lifelong mission has always been to try and figure out what this life is all about, and what happens when you die. Through experience with many different types of philosophies and concepts, I believe I am on Earth to learn, and change, and prepare myself for a light and warm, loving afterlife, where there are jobs to be done as well. The success in my journey here on Earth, will be what dictates my level above.

I'll never know if this is the right path to take, and maybe I'll change it if I continue to learn, but it works for me. It helps to think that when rough times are happening, and fear rises, angers flare, and stress builds, I am being faced with choices. Do I over react and cause more harm? Do I return to my covers and stay there until all is clear? Sometimes. Do I think things through calmly, and make the necessary adjustments; call the phone company, run to the cleaners, go food shopping, bring the dog to the vet, pick up the kids at the bus stop, have dinner, clean up, help with homework and baths, and melt into bed? Most of the time.

If this life is for a reason, I want to make the best of it. I once thought I'd have to be a President or a Queen or Oprah, to do any good in the world. I have since learned differently. Live and learn! I am a cancer, and I love to make people happy. It gives me great joy, which may be a selfish incentive, but that's never my motive. It's so simple to do, if you take the time. Send an e mail, or an e car, or a joke, or simply write a message, or call someone. Commune with nature. I don't think any of us know what will happen in our lives, but we know what is happening for the second, and shame on us if we don't take advantage of that.

Are we are aware of what time it is? It's now-the only time that truly matters. The past was an education in experiences, and the future has yet to unfold. How many things will we put off? How often do we say to ourselves, "When the weather gets warmer, I'll take the dog for a walk everyday, and we'll both get fresh air and exercise?" Don't we have a winter coat, hat, gloves and boots? Why put off to another day what we can accomplish right now? Instead of pushing today off, we need to push ourselves into gear.

Time waits for no one. When the good Lord calls us home, it will be too late to take our kids to the park, or hiking, or rafting. I have no doubt Heaven will be a lot more peaceful than Earth, however, since we are here, wouldn't it make sense to enjoy our time? Does everything have to be an argument, a debate of whit's? Is it so important that our opinion be right? Do we need to have the best car, the nicest house, the most well behaved kids? Do we get so used to running on nervous energy that we forget how to relax? Are we even aware that we need to?

This time on Earth is like going to school, in my opinion. We go through all the various experiences that shape and mold our character. That character is either going to be honest, humble, kind, altruistic, helpful and loving, or it's going to be selfish and greedy, vindictive and cold. Always trying to figure out a way to screw the next person. If we all believed in a Power greater than ourselves, would we really behave in such a fashion? Are we not aware there will be a price to pay for every heart we broke, every fear we evoked in another, every lie we told, and every act of vengeance we played out?

The time to learn about ourselves, our likes, our dislikes, angers, frustrations, fears, and jealousies, is now. The time to repair these character defects is now. The time to reach out to our fellow man is now. The time to hug our kids and grandkids is now. The time to mend fences and fix relationships, is now. Now is all we can be sure of, people pass away in split seconds. Accidents happen in split seconds. Children grow up and leave home in split seconds. Animals only live so long. Are we capable of really living in the moment? It takes practice, but it can be done, at least to a greater extent if we focus and are mindful that this minute we are in is the only one we can be sure about, and we may still be gone before sixty seconds is up.

Be kind to someone today. Help someone out who you'd normally just pass by, as you wondered what was wrong with their car. Hold the door for another, and let their smile captivate your love of life and those who share it with you. Volunteer to read for the elderly and reach a new appreciation for the life ahead of you, while adding to those who have walked that walk. Baby-sit for your grandchild, even though you feel sluggish. The enthusiasm and abundant showering of love this child will offer you far outweighs taking a nap. Take the nap later. I'm sure there are many naps we can take on the clouds.

If we become aware that our lives are not a given, and can be taken away in an instant, maybe we will come to know what time it really is.

Writing calms her, and gives her a place to go by herself! Clears the head and gets it out. She lives in a rural area, with a lake and mountains, and her partner, and has loved writing since she was a child.

She has been on a journey of self discovery for twenty years, and has learned many things about the human mind, and how to maintain some semblance of calm and peace within.

If someone reads one of her stories, and relates to her feelings, and gets a suggestion on how she dealt with them in a positive way, that would be the ultimate gift of her writing.

hi david,
thanks for reading and responding.
i do remember that song.
i think the hardest thing to do is to take one minute at a time,
and the easiest thing to do is to give in and do so.
my best regards,
sue

Susan, I totally agree with this article, I am the proponent that always says "Life is too short"!! It really is, and I for one am living proof of what you have written about. I have had a double by pass surgery, and actually "died" on the operating table, and I am convinced, with this "death" experience, that I was brought back, because I have more to do. I am a dad of three, and my wife is my soul mate, and she is my world, as well as my kids. My passion for writing is one of those things that I just have to do for some reason. To this day, I don't know why. I am a poet, and love poetry. And I am in the entertainment business...and I love to make people...I love my life, and will enjoy, and cherish every minute that I have left. So this article really hit home for me, what you have written about, I am living, have lived, and am still living. Bless your heart for sharing this.....You pal, fan, and friend in pen....Gary

hi gary,
thanks so much for reading and commenting.
i have many near death experience books-the stories i read helped strengthen my very weak heart, soul and faith when my mom passed away 20 years ago. i still believe what i read to this day.
i once saw a tractor trailer driver try to make a sharp turn across the road, and get stuck. he was so frantic about getting stuck and blocking the road, he had a heart attack and died lying on the ground. i saw with my own eyes how life can be trying to solve a problem one moment, and gone to the world in the next.
this life we all lead is really  too precious to waste.
my best regards to you,
sue

Susan,

Another great one!  How true.  Living for the moment is most important which realIy means living well and living right.  I never looked at it in that light.  Thanks so much for a most inspirational article!

Hey Susan, great article. Have you ever heard that saying, "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift, that's why it's called the present." You have an awesome philosophy onlife, which is something we share.
