We'd Do It All Over If Only We Could

mind and body slithering towards the dark
trying to hold on, begging for one single spark
reality coming quicker than we can deal
brains feel like mazes, nothing seems real
are we in our minds, fantasy filled and fun
or, out in the world, looking for somewhere to run
can we stand behind others, or stand on our own
will our attitudes lead us to being alone
will the wick ignite, just this one more time
have we paid enough, have we done our time
Years of experience weighing us down
too many memories swirling around
trying to weed out the bad from the good
we'd do it all over, if only we could
what we know now, and what we knew then,
opposite ideas spin us 'round the bend
we long for stability, comfort and ease
the prayers we hold onto are promising peace
sometimes we wonder what it's all for
something good happens, and yes, we want more
when the gray starts to settle, and the world seems bleak
our souls become troubled, and our minds become weak
we want to give up, we beg for defeat
no more stress, no more mess
no more pain, no more tests
the struggle is to live long and surpass the doubts
plant the flowers, cook the pies, you're still alive, you did not die
If God hasn't taken you, there's more for you to do
if we are committed, we can all start anew
help others from our heart,
bring humanity together, not stretch it further apart
little by little, the nerves go away, and survival means more than before
one step at a time, and your shoes will get tied, your house will get cleaned,
your kids will get attention, and you'll get what you need
patience gets us through the black days of Hell
if we don't have any, we should research it well
nature is right there, and we pass it on by
there is energy in all things, in the blink of an eye
breathe in the air, thankful to be alive
don't allow the black nights of Hell to kill your will to survive
