From Head To Tails

I have heard this saying since I was a kid, and several hundred times since. It seems almost every household has used these 5 words, at one time or another. My mother used it often. If one of her four kids were to trip another sibling, out came the words, "What goes around comes around" and sure enough, the time came when someone did the same thing to us, only we fell forward and hit our tooth on the counter, and broke it in half. Severance pay, so to speak!

If some woman in town told fabricated stories of others, and hurt people’s reputations and created havoc in their lives, my mother would say, "What goes around, comes around." To her, it simply meant, the same feelings one imposes on another, will be felt by the imposer! If kids used a key to scratch a car, they would warrant her little saying, and sure enough, one would hit something and ruin their new paint job. We called it karma, but the 5 little words of "what goes around comes around" made it sound more foreboding.

If someone went out of their way to scare another, they would one day be scared for their life, and know just how they had made the other feel. It takes intuition to realize that the ups and downs of our lives are resembling karma and "what goes around, comes around", but it usually hits us at some time in our lives. A boss may be jealous of an employee, and set this person up to look like they had been stealing. Of course, they were fired, which led to their home going into foreclosure, and their wife and kids leaving.

This boss may, in later years, have a girlfriend their wives don’t know about. Their wife may come home early one day and their clothes aren’t the ones flown around the "family" room! This wife leaves, taking their three children. Now, the boss knows what they did to Joe from accounting. They can feel the despair and sadness. "What goes around, has come around!" We are never safe from this simple idea. How often have we watched kids stomp on sand castles by the ocean? Soon, they spend hours making the perfect castle for all to admire, and a huge wave comes up, and in a second, the castle is gone. "What goes around, comes around."

Yes Susan, I remember that old saying myself. Isn't it the truth "what goes around comes around"
