My Most Unusual Day

I would have to say the most unusual day I have ever spent, was the day my daughter was born. She was my first, and I had no clue what was coming. I awakened at 5 a.m. and felt like I was coming down with the flu. My sister-in-law and brother had spent the night before, and my sister-in-law had one son already, and was due anytime with her second. She made me some tea, but she knew…
All was brand new to me. Riding on the gurney through the halls, waiting for the doctor, and not knowing what to expect. It wasn’t long until I found out. The pain was getting intense when I was informed that my baby was coming too fast, an epidural was out of the question, and any other medication could hurt the little one ripping my insides apart. Now, let me say, I have always been strong. I have dealt with things others were amazed at, and lifted or moved things others couldn’t believe.
Trying to guide a child out of my body was absurd to me, but I couldn’t very well turn back! I couldn’t get off the gurney and go home! I honestly felt like someone was pulling my skin up from my toes to my head. Breathing? That’s what I did after she was born! My sister-in-law was there to hand my beautiful little girl to me, and in that second, all pain was gone. That was the most unusual part of that day! Then there was the inspecting of my bundle of joy? Ah, eventually she showed some joy!
Family and friends came and one of my friends had brought a bottle of maker’s mark, and about 10 of my clan and I went to the solarium for a couple of toasts! Another unusual part of my day one as a mother. Even without the whiskey, I felt so much better not carrying a baby inside, and especially having the labor and birth behind me. I was also glad to see that my sister-in-law was right when I was crying because my daughter’s head was shaped like a cone. After a few hours, it was normal again, just as she had said.
When my sons were born, the pain was the same, but at least I knew what to expect. Having my daughter was probably the most unusual day I’ve ever had. I woke up to some cramps, and ended the day with my beauty. But don’t ask me to do it again!

Thanks for sharing Susan. I guess most of the women on here can relate to what you say and went through, Nonetheless its the outcome that makes it all so worthwhile.
Keep well
